The team behind Midwest Legacy Group is made up of qualified financial professionals who are passionate about helping individuals and families achieve their ideal retirements.
Christopher Gandy* Founder/Associate General Agent
Chris works with clients to create custom financial strategies designed to help make their dream retirement lifestyle a reality.
In 1999, Chris started his own financial services practice and, since then, has worked with business owners, physicians, professional athletes and key executives all over the country. Chris focuses on the areas of life insurance, disability income insurance, investments and tax-efficient strategies.
After playing basketball for the Fighting Illini at the University of Illinois, where he was co-captain and earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors, Chris played professional basketball for the Chicago Bulls and the San Antonio Spurs and in L’Hermaine, France.
After his time in the NBA, and before founding his own agency, Chris worked as a Northwestern Mutual Financial network representative. While there, he became a Million Dollar Round Table Member — an association of financial professionals.
Chris was a communications major at the University of Illinois.
In 2012, Chris found a way to give back to the sports community by becoming a board member of the Chicago Concussion Coalition (founded by Chris Nowinski, of the Emmy-nominated movie “Head Games”), which strives to make amateur sports safer for children. He is also on the board of directors of the Urban League, part of the United Way’s Young Community Leaders, and volunteers for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization.
Outside of work, Chris enjoys spending time with friends, following the NBA and spending time with his best friend and son, Jordan.
Ryan Anthony has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. He began his career as a financial advisor with Northwestern Mutual’s college internship program. During his senior year, Sports Illustrated magazine recognized him as one of America’s top business interns. Ryan continues his growth in the industry as a long-running and current member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA).
Ryan began to grow his own business, Oceans Advisory, a national independent business and personal financial advisory firm. He and his team formed alliances with leading organizations that included Fortune 500 companies to boutique specialized firms. Oceans Advisory successfully executed over a half-billion dollars worth of diverse transactions on behalf of their clients and strategic partners. The firm worked in industries including financial services, investment banking, online gaming, commercial real estate, energy, technology, entertainment and legal.
In 2019, Ryan joined Midwest Legacy Group as a partner. He is responsible for providing executive leadership and guiding clients on their business and personal financial strategies, while also helping to manage the agency’s strategic relationships, recruit new professionals, track new markets and emerging trends, and oversee the agency’s growth initiatives.
Ryan attended Southern Illinois University, where he earned a degree in communications and a minor in political science. In 2010, the university dedicated and named the new sports arena’s ticket office the Ryan Anthony Athletic Ticket Office to recognize his past and ongoing contribution to the university.
Ryan has served on several charity boards and supports many organizations, including the Primo Center for Women and Children, the Southern Illinois University Athletic Fundraising Committee, The Better Boys Foundation, Gateway Green and Tony LaRussa’s Animal Rescue Foundation.
Ryan personally enjoys the culinary arts, golf, cycling, hiking, live music and traveling. He is an avid sports fan and can be found cheering for his favorite teams: the Los Angeles Lakers and Rams, St. Louis Cardinals and Blues and the Southern Illinois University Salukis.
Lamar B. Butler*
Lamar has spent over a decade helping families and business owners to become better informed, organized and prepared for their future financial needs.
Before joining the Midwest Legacy Group, Lamar supported clients as a financial strategist with two industry-leading mutual firms. In addition to his strong financial services background, Lamar’s previous experience as a high-frequency trader, with a focus on commodity futures, has afforded him a nontraditional market perspective.
As a father, Lamar believes that commitment to family and engagement within the community is paramount. He has supported legislative changes and programs designed to promote workplace equality. Through his partnerships with multiple special needs organizations, Lamar has dedicated his time to helping families in these communities prepare for periods of transition.
Lamar has also cultivated strong working relationships with thriving professional women’s networks. Even though women have been invaluable to the growth and development of countless corporations, businesses and Fortune 500 companies, they are a demographic that has been historically underserved. Lamar is committed to being a supporter for this community.
Lamar holds three degrees from his alma mater, DePaul University: a bachelor’s in advertising, a master’s in computer science with a focus on information technology, and a master’s in social science and management. During his tenure at DePaul, he was a letterman for the heavily recruited men’s basketball team and made appearances in the NIT and NCAA Tournament. Following his collegiate career, Lamar spent several seasons playing professional basketball internationally.
